From NBC News: Shares of American Eagle jumped more than 12% this morning after Trump praised the apparel retailer’s controversial ad featuring actress Sydney Sweeney.
The “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans” ad campaign generated backlash for evoking the term “great genes,” which is associated with eugenics and white supremacy. American Eagle said the ad message “is and always was about the jeans.”
Trump’s [Truth Social] post gave American Eagle’s stock a reprieve from an otherwise poor stretch. It’s down about 32% so far this year.
In his post, Trump said, “Go get ‘em, Sidney.”
He also took a swipe at singer Taylor Swift.
