From Fox29 Philadelphia: The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted several controlled detonations of explosives found in a Bucks County storage unit believed to be linked to an ongoing ISIS-inspired terror investigation in New York City.
Federal agents swarmed the Public Storage in Middletown Township on Monday night, hours after two local teens were charged with attempting to support ISIS and using a weapon of mass destruction at a protest in New York City.
Police addressed the “loud bangs” heard by nearby residents on Tuesday morning, saying the FBI “disposed of explosive materials that were found during the execution of search warrants.”
Ibraham Kayumi, 19, of Newton, Pennsylvania, and Emir Balat, 18, of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, were both indicted by the federal government on Monday, after they threw homemade bombs at a group of conservatives who were protesting the Islamic takeover of New York City on Saturday.
Balat’s parents came to the US from Turkey, and Kayumi’s parents came from Afghanistan. The two young Muslim men later admitted they were inspired by ISIS, and wanted to pull off an attack even bigger than the 2013 Boston marathon bombing.
Their homes are both located in suburban Philadelphia, about 4 miles apart. Additional explosives were found in a storage facility in Langhorne, the town where Balat lives with his parents.
The FBI announced Monday evening, “The FBI is conducting a court authorized search of a storage unit in Pennsylvania related to the investigation into the incident near Gracie Mansion.”

In a Facebook post Tuesday morning, the Middletown Township Police Department announced:
Update Regarding Overnight Activity at Local Storage Facility: Last night, residents in the area of the storage facility on S. Flowers Mill Road may have heard several loud bangs during the overnight hours.
As part of the ongoing federal investigation that took place yesterday, the FBI safely disposed of explosive materials that were recovered during the execution of search warrants. These controlled detonations were conducted by trained personnel and were carried out in a controlled manner.
While the noise may have been startling to some residents, there was no danger to the public at any time. The operation at the storage facility has now concluded and the location has returned to normal operations. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while federal authorities conducted this investigation.
