From Fox News: Fifteen people were arrested in Europe on Tuesday for allegedly spreading Islamic State terrorist group propaganda over TikTok, a report said.
The suspects, whose ages ranged from 16 to 53, were taken into custody in raids across the Netherlands, according to Reuters.
The news agency cited Dutch prosecutors as saying the suspects were detained on suspicion of spreading propaganda from ISIS on TikTok and trying to persuade people to carry out terrorist attacks.
The arrests were sparked by a TikTok account that spread large amounts of ISIS propaganda with Dutch subtitles, the prosecutors reportedly added.
Reuters suggested some of the suspects had dual nationalities, as 13 of those arrested were Syrian and four had Dutch nationality.
The TikTok posts, some with more than 100,000 views, encouraged people to join Islamic State and glorified becoming a martyr for the violent Islamist group, Reuters reported.
X user Colin S. Werkman commented on the report, writing, “Dutch police have now arrested 15 ISIS supporters in my own country, The Netherlands, who used social media platforms to recruit people. 🇳🇱 13 of the people arrested are Syrian citizens. 🇸🇾
“Meanwhile, a Middle Eastern country like the United Arab Emirates recently cut funding for scholarships to UK universities, over fear for their own citizens becoming radicalised by Islamists. 🇦🇪 🇬🇧 I just leave that there for you.”
