Former Vice President Mike Pence has strongly criticized the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) 2024 platform for significantly reducing its pro-life language, calling it a “profound disappointment” to millions of pro-life Republicans.

In a passionate address, Pence urged delegates to restore the platform’s historic commitment to the sanctity of human life, arguing that the current vagueness on abortion represents a political retreat that undermines the party’s moral and legal stance on protecting unborn life.

Pence emphasized that the right to life is a foundational principle for the Republican Party, one that should not be compromised or watered down for political convenience. He argued that the platform’s lack of clarity on abortion issues fails to address the critical moral and legal debates surrounding the protection of unborn children.

“The sanctity of human life is a core value that millions of Republicans hold dear. We must not abandon our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable among us,” Pence stated.

He called on the RNC to reaffirm its strong pro-life stance and not to concede ground on this pivotal issue. Pence suggested that the party’s leadership should listen to the grassroots members who have consistently championed the pro-life cause and ensure that their voices are reflected in the platform.

“We have a duty to stand firm on the right to life and to advocate for policies that uphold the dignity and worth of every human being,” he declared.

Pence’s remarks have sparked a broader conflict within the Republican Party about the direction of its platform and the extent to which it should address social issues like abortion. While some members advocate for a more moderate approach to attract a wider voter base, others, like Pence, insist that maintaining a strong pro-life position is essential for preserving the party’s integrity and core values.
