A U.S. Marine veteran who narrowly survived the bombing at the Kabul airport during the bungled withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 delivered a powerful rebuttal to Joe Biden Wednesday night.

During his farewell address from the Oval Office, Biden touted all the “accomplishments” of his administration, and claimed that some of the “seeds” he planted might become evident at a later date.

“You know, it will take time to feel the full impact of all we’ve done together, but the seeds are planted, and they’ll grow, and they’ll bloom for decades to come,” Biden claimed.

The line was repeated in a social media post, and retired Marine Sergeant Tyler Vargas-Andrews fired back with a rebuke which spoke volumes, but really didn’t need any words at all.

Vargas-Andrews, 27, lost his right arm and his left leg during the suicide bombing attack at the Kabul airport on August 26, 2021.  The attack killed 13 U.S. service members, including two of Vargas-Andrews’ close friends, and about 170 Afghans.

The Marine veteran posted two photos in response to Biden’s statement, and wrote, “I and so many others felt it over 3 years ago, President Biden.”

One photo was of himself in the hospital after the bombing, with one leg and one arm missing.  The other photo is of himself kneeling at the grave of Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, one of his friends killed in the attack.

Axios published an impressive report about Vargas-Andrews in November 2023. Below is an excerpt of that report:

A week later, Vargas-Andrews woke up at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. His stomach was ripped open and organs damaged. His right arm above the elbow and entire left leg were amputated. He went down to just 115 lbs. in a few weeks.

“I had a very strong foundation in physical fitness and was very healthy leading up to the point of injury,” Vargas-Andrews tells Axios. “That’s the only reason I’m here today.”

After 49 surgeries and four months inpatient at Walter Reed, Vargas-Andrews has a new mantra, one he’s using to inspire others and launch his own fitness business: “Never a victim.”

In March 2023, Vargas-Andrews testified before Congress. WATCH the emotional 5-minute excerpt below:

Below is an interview with Vargas-Andrews, as he spoke to the Daily Caller in September of last year.
