From New York Post The Washington Monument will double as a giant birthday candle on New Year’s Eve to kick off the yearlong celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Freedom 250, a nonprofit group launched by President Trump earlier this month to lead the semiquincentennial festivities, plans to illuminate the towering obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, DC, with patriotic projections telling the story of America starting on Wednesday.

Freedom 250 began testing the light show earlier this week. One projection displayed “250” and stars on the monument to the nation’s first president in red, white and blue.

Keith Krach, CEO of Freedom 250 said, “The illumination of the Washington Monument marks the beginning of a momentous year for our nation — 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.”

“We invite every American — and every friend of America — to join this historic celebration of the triumph of the American spirit.”

Images of the monument have been shared on social media, see below.
