If a cartoon image means anything, Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell may soon be packing up his personal items from his office into a cardboard box and heading for home.
Without writing a word, President Donald Trump posted a cartoon drawing on his Truth Social page of Powell carrying a cardboard box his is personal belongings and Trump pointing to him, yelling, “You’re FIRED!”
Powell’s term as chair of the Federal Reserve does not end until May 2026, but the president has repeatedly slammed him for not cutting interest rates and has begun calling him, “Too Late Powell.”
Speculation has been swirling about whether Trump will fire Powell, although, reportedly, no president has ever fired a Federal Reserve chairman.

In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump wrote, “Great Numbers came out today on the Economy (3.8%!), and the SUCCESS we are having, but our Interest Rates are too high! If it weren’t for Jerome “Too Late” Powell, we would be at 2% right now, and in the process of balancing our budget. The good news is that we’re powering through his Incompetence, and we’ll soon be doing, as a Country, better than we have ever done before!”
In July, the late Charlie Kirk had commented on President Trump’s interaction with Powell, as he pushed him to lower interest rates.
President Trump to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell:
“I’d love him to lower interest rates.”

What a wild moment. We’ll never have another one quite like him. pic.twitter.com/Psw32Hzo6T
