The family of former President Ronald Reagan are hitting back against Democrat Sen. Elissa Slotkin’s claims in her rebuttal speech to President Trump’s address to Congress.
From NBC News: Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., lit into President Donald Trump on Tuesday night, suggesting that President Ronald Reagan — whose “peace through strength” mantra Trump has adopted — would be appalled by his approach to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“After the spectacle that just took place in the Oval Office last week, Reagan must be rolling in his grave,” Slotkin, referring to Trump’s unexpectedly contentious meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week, said in her response to the joint address to Congress.
“As a Cold War kid, I’m thankful it was Reagan and not Trump in office in the 1980s,” she added. “Trump would have lost us the Cold War.”
Slotkin, who addressed the nation from Wyandotte, Michigan, framed her speech as a pitch for “responsible” governing over “reckless” leadership, arguing that Trump’s agenda could spell economic doom for the country.
In her Democratic response, Sen. Elissa Slotkin slammed Pres. Donald Trump over last week’s Oval Office dust-up between Trump, Vice Pres. JD Vance and Ukrainian Pres. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying Ronald Reagan “must be rolling in his grave.”

President Reagan’s son, Michael Reagan, wrote in a post on X Tuesday night, “My father would be applauding tonite’s address to the nation..Thank you Mr President for making us feel proud again..God Bless you and God Bless America..”

In another post, he added, “FYI, to the Democrat response to Trump‘s fabulous uplifting speech tonight, Trump would not have lost the Cold War. You must remember the Democrats didn’t like the ‘tear down this wall’ speech. They also didn’t like my father calling the Soviet Union, the evil empire, and they were mad when he walked away from Reykjavík. The Democrats are a party of whiners and losers. Reagan and Trump proved to be winners while the Democrats are the losers.”

President Reagan’s grandson also weighed in.
Michael Reagan wrote, “My son’s opinion of the Response.. “They literally hated him (Grandpa) while he was alive. A Democrat was in charge before him and we had Iran hostages and he never got us out of the Cold War. Democrats pandering to mindless people invoking Grandpa’s name is horse shit.” God Bless Cameron.”
