SEE IT: President Trump, Gov. DeSantis and others react after Pelosi announces retirement plans

President Donald Trump has responded after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Thursday that she will not seek re-election next year, after holding office nearly 40 years.

Pelosi, 85, has made no secret of her hatred toward Trump since he won the presidency the first time in the 2016 election, and has fought his policies every step of the way.

During Trump’s 2020 State of the Union speech, Pelosi, sitting behind him in the Speaker’s seat, dramatically ripped up her copy of his speech after he finished speaking, and videos of the moment went viral on social media.

In a CNN interview on Monday, Pelosi sneered of Trump, “He’s just a vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the earth.”

Upon learning she is retiring from Congress, Trump flipped the spelling of Pelosi’s “vile” remark, declaring that she is “evil.”

Responding to a reporter’s question in the Oval Office Thursday, Trump said, “I think she’s an evil woman. I’m glad she’s retiring. I think she did the country a great service by retiring,” Trump said.

“I think she was a tremendous liability for the country. I thought she was an evil woman who did a poor job, who cost the country a lot in damages and in reputation. I thought she was terrible,” he added.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis mocked, “With Pelosi’s announced retirement, Congress is losing one of its longest-serving members — and its top hedge fund manager.”

Other reactions are pouring in…. below is just a sampling:

Radio host Jason Rantz mocked, “After serving for nearly 200 years, Nancy Pelosi won’t seek reelection.”

Breitbart’s Bradley Jaye quipped, “Where will I get my stock tips now?! 💸.”

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) suggested, “Nancy Pelosi is retiring – perfect time to pass the PELOSI Act and BAN stock trading by members of Congress.”

Democrat leaders are praising Pelosi’s 40 years in Congress.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wrote, “Speaker Pelosi didn’t just break glass ceilings—she shattered them and then built a ladder for countless others to climb.”

Joe Biden released a statement: “I often said Nancy Pelosi was the best Speaker of the House in American history — it’s why I awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. When I was President, we worked together to grow our economy, create millions of jobs, and make historic investments in our nation’s future. She has devoted much of her life to this country, and America will always be grateful. Jill and I wish Nancy and Paul all the best.”

Kamala Harris gushed, “Nancy Pelosi has spent her career fighting on behalf of the people of San Francisco, California, our nation, and our future. Her tenacity, conviction, and legacy as a legislator are unmatched. Thank you, Madam Speaker. I am grateful for your friendship, and our nation is grateful for your service. Doug and I wish you and Paul all the best in this next chapter.”

Hillary Clinton wrote, “There will be so many things to say about the legendary Nancy Pelosi’s transformational tenure in Congress—but for now, let’s start with “Thank you, Madam Speaker.””

Barack Obama released the following statement: “For almost four decades, Nancy Pelosi has served the American people and worked to make our country better. No one was more skilled at bringing people together and getting legislation passed – and I will always be grateful for her support of the Affordable Care Act. She made us proud to be Democrats, and will go down in history as one of the best speakers the House of Representatives has ever had. Nancy, thank you for your leadership and your friendship. Michelle and I wish you and Paul the best in this next chapter.”
