Vice President-elect JD Vance posted a joke about potentially skipping the inauguration on January 20, and his comment has created quite a flurry on social media.
From Fox News: Vice President-elect JD Vance, a proud Ohio State alumnus, said back in August that this Buckeyes team might be “the best” he’s seen in some time. That will easily be settled when Ohio State takes on Notre Dame in the national championship game later this month, and Vance wants to be there to see it.
There’s just one slight complication.
President-elect Donald Trump and Vance will officially take office on Jan. 20 – the same day as the title game.
“Hopefully everyone is cool with me skipping the inauguration so I can go to the national title game,” Vance jokingly suggested on X late Friday night.
He then added a drawing of two red buttons, as if debating which one to push:
1 – Attend your own inauguration
2 – Go watch the Buckeyes win a national title

Vance’s post has already gotten over 14 million views and 27,000 comments. Some people are taking him seriously and freaking out over his out-of-whack priorities, while others are playing along, realizing it’s only a joke and noting that a little humor once in a while is not a bad thing.

Kaitlan Collins in 5 seconds: Sources confirm JD Vance cares more about college football than being Vice President. Let’s open it up to our bipartisan panel of Adam Kinzinger, Adam Schiff and Elizabeth Warren to get their thoughts.

You got 6 hours to get to the game. Even if you’re late, you have plenty of time to do both! Don’t act like a selfish liberal.

Some people just don’t know how to take a joke:
Ummm…you are joking right? What am I missing?

The funny part is, I truly can’t tell if this is meant as a joke or not. Hahaha. @JDVance are you serious?

it seem disrespectful for a vice president to skip a presidential inauguration for something as trivial as watching a game. The inauguration isn’t just about the president; it’s a symbol of their shared leadership and the beginning of their administration. It’s also a day that…
