SEE IT: JD Vance jokes about skipping inauguration, sets internet abuzz

Vice President-elect JD Vance posted a joke about potentially skipping the inauguration on January 20, and his comment has created quite a flurry on social media.

From Fox News: Vice President-elect JD Vance, a proud Ohio State alumnus, said back in August that this Buckeyes team might be “the best” he’s seen in some time. That will easily be settled when Ohio State takes on Notre Dame in the national championship game later this month, and Vance wants to be there to see it.

There’s just one slight complication.

President-elect Donald Trump and Vance will officially take office on Jan. 20 – the same day as the title game.

“Hopefully everyone is cool with me skipping the inauguration so I can go to the national title game,” Vance jokingly suggested on X late Friday night.

He then added a drawing of two red buttons, as if debating which one to push:

1 – Attend your own inauguration
2 – Go watch the Buckeyes win a national title

Vance’s post has already gotten over 14 million views and 27,000 comments. Some people are taking him seriously and freaking out over his out-of-whack priorities, while others are playing along, realizing it’s only a joke and noting that a little humor once in a while is not a bad thing.

“I’ll be a seat filler for you, no one will notice,” quipped comedian Tim Young.

“Everybody else in the federal government works remotely why not the Veep?” wrote United Cajun Navy.

“Careful. Liberal media will have a field day with this one,” warned Tony.

Some people just don’t know how to take a joke:

And one person mockingly suggested moving the game to the national mall:
