Florida’s Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has a tremendous sense of humor, and posted a crime report last week that is too hilarious to ignore.
On November 26, just one day before Thanksgiving, Sheriff Ivey posted a mugshot of a man who he says is from New York, who was busted for driving over 100 miles per hour on a Florida highway.
READ the sheriff’s full statement below:
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all the many blessings we have and it’s also one of the busiest travel times of the year!! With that said, those with common sense drive safely so every one arrives alive and gets to enjoy the holiday with family and friends!!
Well folks, unfortunately “common sense” ain’t that common any more as some people, like Ramzi Yehya, think that it’s a great idea to drive 111mph on I-95 in Brevard County!! Well one of the things that I’m actually thankful for is our great Deputies who let those who drive like maniacs know where Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge is located!!
Yehya’s little driving escapade happened yesterday and thankfully Deputy Brad McLaughlin of our Traffic Unit, was out conducting speed enforcement on I-95 when he first clocked Yehya at 94mph and then up to 111mph as he was trying to get him stopped and eventually pulled over on the shoulder of the road!!
Apparently Yehya thought I-95 was an extension of the Daytona International Speedway, but as he would soon learn…driving like that in Brevard County is how you go to jail…straight to jail!! There is absolutely no reason to be driving 111mph anywhere, much less on a congested highway during the holidays and busiest travel time of the year!!
The good news is that Yehya, who is from New York where enforcing the law and arresting people is apparently not that important, has quickly learned that here in Florida we do things a bit differently!! You see in Florida, driving like a maniac earns you a trip straight to jail for Dangerous/Excessive Speed!!
On a bright note, Yehya does qualify for our lodge’s express booking package which includes a souvenir booking photo, fairly new shower slides, a meal pass in our one star rated dining facility, and of course, his “I Messed Around And Found Out In Brevard County” souvenir T-shirt!!
Great job by Deputy McLaughlin at getting this guy off our streets before he hurts or kills someone!! Have a great and safe Thanksgiving everyone!!
Sheriff Wayne Ivey
The post has gone viral and has already generated over 8,500 comments, with most people thanking the sheriff for the laugh. Some are suggesting the thug should be sent to “Alligator Alcatraz.”
“Book him a suite in Alligator Alcatraz,” Chris wrote.
“Out of curiosity, how much time do you get at the Iron Bar Lodge for doing 111?” Stephen asked.
Many are asking about the man’s legal status and nationality, although the sheriff did not provide that information in his write-up.
“Does it get him a plane ticket for that $1,000 bonus ride?” Karen asked.
“He looks a little mad about it all,” Deb mocked.
“I’m sure he’ll have a fun filled Thanksgiving day in your five star accommodations,” Michelle mocked.
