From Daily Mail:

Maryland’s Democratic governor swerved a question when grilled by a CNN anchor over reported evidence that appears to contradict the veracity of a story he’s told about his family being ‘forced’ into overseas exile by the Ku Klux Klan.

The report from the right-leaning Washington Free Beacon insists the story about Governor Wes Moore’s maternal grandfather, James Joshua Thomas, and great grandfather, Rev. Josiah Johnson Thomas, in the 1920s is not true.

Historical records from the Protestant Episcopal Church in the family’s hometown of Pineville, South Carolina, and contemporary reports from the time appear to indicate their departure was an ordinary public professional transfer.

The documents further suggest the family moved after Rev. Thomas was appointed to replace a deceased pastor in Jamaica, according to the Free Beacon.

Appearing on CNN’s The Arena, Gov. Moore appeared to dodge anchor Kasie Hunt’s question about the reported records.

Hunt asked, “And those church records that show that one of your family members left voluntarily to take over for someone who had passed away, those records are wrong?“

“They should really ask the Ku Klux Klan about what their activities were during the 1920s,” Moore replied.
