From Fox News: New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo’s campaign is walking back an AI-generated ad that depicted opposing voters as criminals and vagrants on Thursday.
The ad depicts supporters of rival candidate Zohran Mamdani committing crimes like burglary, looting, drunk driving and human trafficking. The campaign posted the ad Wednesday night before quickly taking it down.
Mamdani called the ad “just disgusting” in a response on social media.
Cuomo campaign spokesman Rich Azzopardi told the New York Times that the video was “posted in error” and “wasn’t done yet.”
Former NYC mayor Bill de Blasio fumed over the ad, writing, “This is disqualifying. No candidate who approves a racist, disgusting ad like this can be allowed to govern. Bye, @andrewcuomo.”
The AI-generated ad depicts “criminals for Zohran Mamdani” who tout their support for the socialist mayoral candidate.
Although the Cuomo campaign took down the ad, copies of the video are going viral on X. One video has already gotten over 4 million views.
And Democrats are furious, with many claiming it is racist.
This is disqualifying. No candidate who approves a racist, disgusting ad like this can be allowed to govern.
Bye, @andrewcuomo @ZohranKMamdani https://t.co/HRipHhxjEs— Bill de Blasio (@BilldeBlasio) October 23, 2025
Meanwhile, many conservatives are pushing back, asking why the ad was taken down, and saying it actually represents the truth.
“Why is it disqualifying. It’s true. He wants to let the criminals rule,” one person wrote.
“It’s hilarious,” another person declared.
“I think it’s right on target,” another X user stated.
“I would’ve respected Cuomo so much more if he’d have posted this boldly without apology. It’s a work of art,” declared another person.
“Hahahahaha. This is by far the only good thing to come from @andrewcuomo ever. 🔥,” one X user wrote.
