From Breitbart: Border Patrol agents in San Diego found a sophisticated cross-border smuggling tunnel that connects California to Tijuana, Mexico. The tunnel reportedly extended more than 1,000 feet into the United States from Mexico.
San Diego Sector Tunnel Team agents discovered a cross-border tunnel in April that appeared to still be under construction, according to a statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The agents found that the tunnel crossed under the Otay Mesa Port of Entry.
The sophisticated tunnel contained a rail track to quickly move cargo from Mexico into the United States, CBP photos revealed. Officials carefully mapped the tunnel, which they say extended more than 2,900 feet. The tunnel measured 42 inches in height and 28 inches in width and was about 50 feet underground at its deepest point.
Officials say the tunnel appeared to be headed to a nearby commercial warehouse. In addition to the smuggling track, the tunnel had an electrical wiring system, lighting, and ventilation systems.

When agents made the first entry into the tunnel, they encountered multiple makeshift barricades. These barricades were placed haphazardly by the tunnel workers in an apparent effort to impede agents’ southbound progress and the eventual identification of the tunnel’s origin.
Agents carefully mapped the tunnel, which measured 2,918 feet in total length. Inside, the tunnel dimensions measured 42 inches in height, 28 inches in width and ran approximately 50 feet underground at its deepest point. On Monday, Border Patrol in collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations and Government of Mexico authorities worked to locate the origin point of the tunnel.
The entrance was located within a residence in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood. Mexican authorities served a warrant at the location and found the entrance to the tunnel had recently been concealed by freshly laid tile.
The tunnel will soon be pumped full of concrete.
“This tunnel has been scheduled for immediate remediation by the U.S. Border Patrol San Diego Sector Tunnel Team. Contractors will pour thousands of gallons of concrete into the tunnel, preventing the tunnel from use by Foreign Terrorist Organizations,” CBP announced.
Omar H Garcia Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico, shared photos of the massive tunnel and wrote, “In Tijuana, Baja California, elements of the @SSPCMexico and @FGRMexico, @Defensamx1 and @SEMAR_mx in coordination with the authorities of the state of Baja California @GobiernoBajaCa executed a search warrant for crimes against health and located a tunnel approximately 600 meters long that connected Mexico with the United States, which was used for drug trafficking.”
