From Law & Crime: A battle is brewing in upstate New York between a Trump-supporting business owner who erected a large “Vote for Trump” sign on the roof of his building and local government officials concerned about safety.
The city of Amsterdam, which is about 35 miles northwest of Albany, on Friday obtained a restraining order against a printing company called Sticker Mule, which is preventing the sign from being illuminated at night, according to local NBC affiliate WNYT. The company’s CEO, Anthony Constantino, is an ardent supporter of Donald Trump and formed a political action committee on the former president’s behalf.
Constantino was forced to cover the sign after a Montgomery Supreme Court issued the order. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. Local officials say the 100-foot-wide sign presents a “dangerous distraction” and could ensnarl traffic or cause accidents because of people stopping to take pictures of the sign, the order obtained by UPI reportedly said. The city also reportedly said the sign violates city code which says any business sigs must relate to the business itself.
Sticker Mule is housed in a factory building that is several stories high. The sign is prevalent among the city’s skyline.
According to a separate Fox News report: Constantino describes Sticker Mule as “the internet’s fastest growing printing company” with 1,200 employees in 39 countries. His online business began by making stickers but has since expanded to print T-shirts, buttons and magnets and even operates its own online store platform, Sticker Mule Stores. He is proud to report that Sticker Mule has created nearly 1,000 manufacturing jobs in the U.S. over the past few years.
Constantino erected the huge Trump sign on top of the old Fownes glove factory, one of buildings he had bought and restored, filling them with machines and workers.
The Law & Crime report explains that Constantino’s PAC approached the city back in August about erecting the Trump sign on the top of his building. The city claimed it would violate city code. However, Constantino erected the sign anyway, and announced in an Instagram post last week that there would be an official lighting ceremony Monday evening.
“I think it’s deeply disturbing,” Constantino said, referring to the city’s action against his Trump sign. “I brought nearly a thousand jobs to my hometown, which was decimated when the Fownes company and other companies left. And I’m trying to do something positive, exciting for the community.”
