By digging in their heels and forcing a government shutdown, Democrats have now painted themselves into a corner, and getting out of it is going to be messy.
As the Washington Post Editorial Board warned in an oped Wednesday, Democrats have literally walked into a “trap”, as the Trump administration now has the ability to cut wasteful spending in a way they didn’t have before.
On Wednesday, Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought put an $18 billion infrastructure project on hold in New York City, and yanked $8 billion from Democrat-led states for “climate change” programs.
President Donald Trump taunted Democrats in a post on Truth Social Thursday morning that more cuts are coming.
“I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent,” Trump wrote.
“I can’t believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity. They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT,” he added.
Wednesday night, Trump wrote, “Republicans must use this opportunity of Democrat forced closure to clear out dead wood, waste, and fraud. Billions of Dollars can be saved. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
