When United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle appears before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, she will face intense scrutiny regarding the agency’s biggest failure in four decades: the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

This will be her first detailed public examination since the July 13 incident at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Cheatle has avoided press conferences and given few interviews, making this hearing a crucial opportunity to address the security lapses.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer has promised an extensive and detailed hearing, stating on “Fox News Sunday” that Cheatle will face hundreds of questions over the course of approximately six hours. Lawmakers are particularly concerned about the lack of information regarding the shooter’s motive, how he was able to position himself on a nearby rooftop with an AR-style weapon, and why Trump’s team was not warned of the threat.

The limited information released since the rally has frustrated many, particularly Republican lawmakers, who are demanding answers and some calling for Cheatle’s resignation. Rumors have circulated Cheatle may submit her formal resignation tomorrow before the hearing:
