From Washington Examiner:
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared a story published by Axios on Wednesday morning, highlighting statistics that showed the U.S. murder rate is on pace for its largest, single-year decrease on record.
The outlet cited data from the Real-Time Crime Index, which compiles monthly crime statistics from hundreds of local, state, and federal agencies. The data show that the total murders committed in the U.S. between January and October of 2025 fell just shy of 6,000, a more than 19% dip compared to January through October of 2024.
RTCI data shows a significant decline in American murders in 2025, potentially the fastest decrease in U.S. history. While not definitive until federal data is released, the RTCI analysis has historically been accurate within 1.5%.
“In other words, the percentage points will change a bit, but we have sufficient information now to say what next year’s FBI crime estimates will say with fairly good confidence,” Jeff Asher, a crime statistics analyst explained on Sunday.
