From the New York Post: An unhinged former staff member at the University of Kentucky floated the idea that the death and destruction Hurricane Helene unleashed on red states was divine retribution for their residents’ support of former President Donald Trump.
“Hurricane Helene…what if GOD is punishing MAGA populations for their hate and hypocrisy? Works for me!” Betsy Packard wrote Sunday in a heartless post on X punctuated with a winking emoji.
Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 storm. Its 140-mph winds carved a path of devastation from Georgia to Virginia, killing more than 100 in the South.
At least 121 deaths have been reported across six states, due to the catastrophic storm.
During a press conference Monday morning, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp explained the massive amount of damaged from the storm looked like a “250-mile-wide tornado” had hit.
But Packard is gloating over the fantasy that maybe God is trying to “punish MAGA populations.”
Hurricane Helene…what if GOD is punishing MAGA populations for their hate and hypocrisy?
Works for me! 😉

Once the backlash started Packard has repeatedly tried to justify her post by sharing a screenshot of a post by someone else who blasted Asheville, NC as a “woke city” full of “degenerates.”
Another social media user scolded, “So wait…someone being nasty on the right justifies you being nasty on the left? People died. Period. I could care less about their political persuasion. What that guy said is wicked and repugnant. What you said is just as wicked and repugnant.”

In another post, Packard wrote, “You got hit with an Act of God. Looks like God’s pissed off at you.”

“Hey. If they got hit with An Act of God of this magnitude, God must be REALLY pissed off with MAGA,” Packard wrote in yet another post.
Hey. If they got hit with An Act of God of this magnitude, God must be REALLY pissed off with MAGA.

“Actually, MAGA country just got hammered with an Act of God. Hmmmm God must be really pissed,” she wrote in yet another reply to a social media user.

The brazen statements just never end… below are several more, as Packard continues to claim God has brought the storm upon MAGA supporters and Christians:
Psssst
1. There are no communists.
2. This storm was AN ACT OF GOD. Looks like He’s mighty pissed at MAGA.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 29, 2024
We stayed out of the Lord’s way & let Him chastise you fools.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 29, 2024
God just unloaded an entire can of whoopass on you fools, and you still support Trump? WTF is wrong with you?
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 29, 2024
The media isn’t going to challenge God or get in His way when He hits you with a can of whoopass. God just took a bullwhip to the pseudo-Christians.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 29, 2024
An Act of God hammered you, and you still din’t hear Him? God is obviously mighty pissed at MAGAs. How can you not see this?

An Act of God hammered MAGA country, and they still don’t get it.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 29, 2024
And Act of God hits MAGA country, and you want the Anti-Christ back.
What more must God do to get your feeble attention?
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 29, 2024
I think God is quite annoyed with MAGAts.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 29, 2024
Packard continues to double down as the social media backlash continues.
“All day long, MAGAs post lies and mocking nastigrams about Democrats. So, I mocked them, I hammered on their hypocrisy. Talk about toxic vengeance. “They can dish it out, but they can’t take it,”” she sneered.

In another post, Packard argued that she only said, “what IF,” and claimed she didn’t really mean it.
“I need to clarify previous posts. I erred in thinking Americans could read. I said WHAT IF. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Michelle Bachmann attributed disasters to divine punishment. DO I BELIEVE THIS? NO. Did I say I believed it? Nope. But some fools DO believe it,” she wrote.
I need to clarify previous posts.
I erred in thinking Americans could read. I said WHAT IF.
Marjorie Taylor Greene and Michelle Bachmann attributed disasters to divine punishment.
DO I BELIEVE THIS?
NO.
Did I say I believed it? Nope.
But some fools DO believe it. pic.twitter.com/pC7STuK6pk
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 30, 2024
Packard claimed her “wink” emoji should have made it clear she was only joking, and is now blaming it on people who “can’t read.”
And I at least said WHAT IF.
I wanted fools who attribute disease and disaster to punishment for “sin” to think about such absurd conclusions.
I did NOT say I believed it.
I erred in thinking such folks could read.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 30, 2024
THE WINK DIDN’T TELL YOU I WAS MOCKING?
From one of your own. pic.twitter.com/yIPSjJK0Kl
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 30, 2024
You lack reading comprehension.
I said, WHAT IF.” I didn’t say I believe it.
This was “food for thought” for those who say diseases, disasters, etc are divine punishments. I wanted them to see the folly of their blame.
But I erred in not remembering MAGAs are obtuse.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 30, 2024
I have better things to do than deal with folks who cannot read.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 30, 2024
It wasn’t hate. I was mocking you.
You can dish it out but can’t take it. All day long MAGAs mock. Your turn.
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 30, 2024
I’ve been targeted by MAGA stupidity today too.
They mock others, but get nasty on the receiving end.
And so many can’t read. https://t.co/9wLUTaDyJW
— BetsyPackardPoet&Writer (@BetsyPackardPo1) September 30, 2024
I’m retired.
And you freely dish it out but can’t take it.
Btw, I’m an atheist. I don’t believe in divine punishment.
But this guy does — pic.twitter.com/46XKQEUwx3

Meet Betsy Packard, an instructor at @UKarts_sciences. She appears to celebrate Hurricane Helene destroying cities because some of those towns are Republican.
Does @UKarts_sciences also believe this? Do they condone these messages? pic.twitter.com/BwHwaPAGLH

Your employee, Betsy Packard, is a vile, sick woman. Who celebrates death and destruction in the communities of your fellow Americans? No one that is mentally stable takes politics this far. Disgusting! pic.twitter.com/CiqSHIytu5
