From the New York Post: An unhinged former staff member at the University of Kentucky floated the idea that the death and destruction Hurricane Helene unleashed on red states was divine retribution for their residents’ support of former President Donald Trump.

“Hurricane Helene…what if GOD is punishing MAGA populations for their hate and hypocrisy? Works for me!” Betsy Packard wrote Sunday in a heartless post on X punctuated with a winking emoji.

Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 storm. Its 140-mph winds carved a path of devastation from Georgia to Virginia, killing more than 100 in the South.

At least 121 deaths have been reported across six states, due to the catastrophic storm.

During a press conference Monday morning, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp explained the massive amount of damaged from the storm looked like a “250-mile-wide tornado” had hit.

But Packard is gloating over the fantasy that maybe God is trying to “punish MAGA populations.”

Once the backlash started Packard has repeatedly tried to justify her post by sharing a screenshot of a post by someone else who blasted Asheville, NC as a “woke city” full of “degenerates.”

Another social media user scolded, “So wait…someone being nasty on the right justifies you being nasty on the left? People died. Period. I could care less about their political persuasion. What that guy said is wicked and repugnant. What you said is just as wicked and repugnant.”

In another post, Packard wrote, “You got hit with an Act of God. Looks like God’s pissed off at you.”

“Hey. If they got hit with An Act of God of this magnitude, God must be REALLY pissed off with MAGA,” Packard wrote in yet another post.

“Actually, MAGA country just got hammered with an Act of God. Hmmmm God must be really pissed,” she wrote in yet another reply to a social media user.

The brazen statements just never end… below are several more, as Packard continues to claim God has brought the storm upon MAGA supporters and Christians:

Packard continues to double down as the social media backlash continues.

“All day long, MAGAs post lies and mocking nastigrams about Democrats. So, I mocked them, I hammered on their hypocrisy. Talk about toxic vengeance. “They can dish it out, but they can’t take it,”” she sneered.

In another post, Packard argued that she only said, “what IF,” and claimed she didn’t really mean it.

“I need to clarify previous posts. I erred in thinking Americans could read. I said WHAT IF. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Michelle Bachmann attributed disasters to divine punishment. DO I BELIEVE THIS? NO. Did I say I believed it? Nope. But some fools DO believe it,” she wrote.

Packard claimed her “wink” emoji should have made it clear she was only joking, and is now blaming it on people who “can’t read.”
