From the New York Post: A Washington state woman was busted for fatally shooting a US Customs and Border Protection agent during a traffic stop in Vermont this week, federal authorities said Friday.
Teresa Youngblut, 21, allegedly opened fire at Border Patrol officer David Maland when he stopped her and a friend, Felix Baukholt, on Monday on Interstate 91 in Coventry, according to the FBI.
They were initially pulled over because Baukholt, a German national, appeared to have an expired visa — before gunfire broke out, authorities said.
The pair had been under surveillance for several days after an employee at a hotel reported seeing Youngblut carrying a gun and both of them wearing all-black tactical gear.
During the traffic stop, Baukholt was also shot and died as well.
Youngblut has now been charged with the murder of agent Maland.
According to a report by the Associated Press on Thursday, Border Patrol agent David Maland, 44, was a military veteran who had worked security duty at the Pentagon during the Sept. 11 attacks.

News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley shared the following details:
UPDATE: I just received confirmation that the driver from Germany had a visa renewed in November of 2024.
The information I received that he was a “visa overstay” was from several high level sources within CBP. I would never go with information that was not confirmed through at least 3 individuals… The information I had was obviously preliminary. That doesn’t dismiss it wasn’t accurate. Regardless, the issue was one regarding immigration and that was the reason for the stop in the first place.
The new information is that the woman (who is a U.S. citizen) in the passenger seat was reportedly the shooter. She became confrontational and the gunfight ensued—She was injured in the altercation—The driver was also armed. He was shot and killed.
