From The Hill: President Trump on Tuesday announced Andrew Giuliani, an ally and son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, would lead a task force overseeing the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in North America.

Trump convened a meeting of that task force at the White House with a host of FIFA and administration officials to tout plans for the massive event.

The United States will serve as the primary host, with Mexico and Canada also hosting several matches. It will kick off on June 11, 2026, and it will mark the first men’s World Cup to expand from 32 teams to 48 teams.

In a Truth Social post Tuesday afternoon, Trump wrote:

I am proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Giuliani as the Executive Director of the President’s Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. During my First Term, Andrew served as a Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison, playing a key role in creating the system that enabled athletes from around the World to re-enter the United States during the Reopening of America in 2020.

Additionally, Carlos Cordeiro will serve as Senior Advisor. Carlos is currently Senior Advisor to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and was previously the President of the United States Soccer Federation, where he was Chairman of the winning bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

I know Andrew and Carlos will work tirelessly to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup an unprecedented success. Congratulations Andrew and Carlos!

Giuliani responded:

“Thank you President Trump, I am honored to serve as the Executive Director for the White House Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Led by President Trump in his first term, America secured the bid to host the 2026 World Cup and it will be an incredible opportunity to unite the world, and celebrate American excellence.

“I look forward to working with the President, Vice President Vance, Secretary Noem, the honorable members of the Task Force, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Senior Advisor Carlos Cordeiro to make 2026 the safest and most successful World Cup in history.”

President Trump said his son Barron is thrilled that the events will be hosted in the U.S., adding that Barron “loves soccer.”
