From Breitbart: President Donald Trump on the first day of his administration stripped the security clearances of a number of anti-Trump former officials, including retired Gen. Michael Hayden, an adviser to Newsguard, the establishment pro-censorship group operating a news blacklist against conservatives.
Hayden is a controversial public figure, even for those in the Never Trump camp.
For instance, he called Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) to be removed from the “human race” in a social media post in late October 2023.
Hayden is also an adviser for Newsguard, an organization that ranks the alleged reliability of news outlets via a browser extension. Newsguard portrays itself as neutral; however, it favors left-leaning, corporate-owned media outlets, even if they publish verifiable disinformation without corrections, and often target right-leaning news outlets. In practice, it is a blacklisting tool aimed squarely at conservatives and a cornerstone of what Trump FCC Chairman Brendar Carr calls the Censorship Cartel.
The report notes that Hayden has claimed that the Hunter Biden laptop story was “Russian disinformation,” and also agreed with a claim that today’s Republicans are “nihilistic, dangerous, and contemptible.”
In December, Steve Cortes highlighted a post on X by Hayden, who had shared a post comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler. Hayden has now deleted his X account.
“Michael Hayden is a retired four-star general who served as the Director of NSA, Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Director of the CIA. The Deep State is absolutely real. Confirm every single one of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and clean it up,” Cortes wrote.

Gen. Hayden is founder of the Hayden Center. The organization has shared a link to Trump’s order that was posted by CBS correspondent Margaret Brennan, who lamented, “President Trump revoked the security clearances of a long list of former intelligence officials. This makes it hard for his own team to seek informed counsel from them.”
The “long list of former intelligence officials” were the 51 ‘spies who lied’, as they published a letter days ahead of the 2020 election, falsely claiming Hunter Biden’s laptop ‘had all the signs of Russian disinformation.’ Therefore, it is doubtful that Trump’s team would be seeking “informed counsel’ from them at any point.

In a post on X about their report, Breitbart wrote, “If you haven’t been working in conservative media for the past few years, you might not know exactly how terrible NewsGuard is. But believe us, this is so, so satisfying — even beyond just seeing consequences for him as a Deep State subversive.”
