REPORT: Trump secures win, signs rescissions package to yank $9 billion in funding

From Fox News: President Donald Trump signed into law his roughly $9 billion rescissions package to scale back already approved federal funds for foreign aid and public broadcasting on Thursday, after both chambers of Congress approved the legislation earlier in the month, sources familiar to the matter have confirmed.

The signing marks another legislative victory for the Trump administration just two weeks after the president signed into law his massive tax and domestic policy measure, dubbed the “big, beautiful bill.”

The rescissions package pulls back nearly $8 billion in funding Congress already approved for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), a previously independent agency that provided impoverished countries aid and offered development assistance.

However, the Trump administration has faced layoffs and has been absorbed into the State Department amid concerns from the Trump administration that the organization did not advance U.S. core interests.

In addition to the funding yanked from USAID the legislation also pulls back over $1 billion in federal funding for NPR and PBS.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) announced, “Honored to join President Trump as he signs the rescissions package into law to deliver a major win for taxpayers. There is a lot more than $9 billion of waste in Washington β€” time for another rescissions package!”

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) wrote, “President Trump just signed our rescissions package to cut over $9 billion in wasteful spending into law! I was proud to lead the charge to codify his executive orders and take a big step in slashing federal spending. Promises made, promises kept.”

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) attended the signing as well, and wrote, “Honored to be at the White House when President Trump signed the HISTORIC rescissions package into law! We will continue to root out waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal government.”
