From Fox News: President Donald Trump reportedly fired two of the three Democratic commissioners on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), as his administration continues its pledge to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) from government bureaucracy.

The two now-former EEOC commissioners, Charlotte Burrows and Jocelyn Samuels, said in statements Tuesday that they were fired late Monday night. Both said they were exploring options to challenge their dismissals, calling their removal before the expiration of their five-year terms an unprecedented decision that undermines the agency’s independence.

Burrows, who has been an EEOC commissioner since 2015, said in her statement Tuesday that the dismissal of two Democratic commissioners before their terms ended “undermine the efforts of this independent agency to do the important work of protecting employees from discrimination, supporting employers’ compliance efforts, and expanding public awareness and understanding of federal employment laws.”

Samuels, who was appointed by Trump in 2020, and then was nominated by former President Joe Biden for a second term, said her removal “violates the law, and represents a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of the EEOC as an independent agency – one that is not controlled by a single Cabinet secretary but operates as a multi-member body whose varying views are baked into the Commission’s design.”

Last week, Samuels, Burrows, and commissioner Kalpana Kotagal had released a joint statement blasting the Trump administration for voiding a DEI-related order.

Now, they’ve been fired.

Samuels released another statement after her firing.

Since Burrows is Black, the left is already playing the race card. The Joint Center, a political think tank who calls itself ‘America’s Black Think Tank,’ said in a statement, “In response to President Trump’s decision to fire two commissioners of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Charlotte Burrows and Jocelyn Samuels, the Joint Center issues a statement as a reminder that America’s Black think tank remains fully dedicated to advocating for robust policy solutions that prioritize Black workers and learners today and in the future.”

Just three days before President Trump’s inauguration, Burrows had released a statement on the EEOC website, in which she touted her DEI initiatives:

Since its founding nearly 60 years ago, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC or Commission) has helped many millions of workers obtain relief from discrimination based on race; color; religion; sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity); national origin; age; disability; genetic information; or pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions.

Burrows further bragged:

During my time as Chair, I had the opportunity to launch new initiatives addressing key employment issues, including ensuring that employers’ use of artificial intelligence complies with civil rights laws and highlighting lawful ways to increase diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in hiring.

Now, under the Trump administration, new Acting Chair Andrea Lucas posted an update on Wednesday, announcing “the first six actions she’s taken to return the EEOC to its mission of protecting women from sexual harassment and sex-based discrimination in the workplace.”
