REPORT: Trump Looks to Double Immigration Judges After Biden Left Backlog of Unprecedented 3.5M Deportation Cases

From Breitbart: President Donald Trump is looking to double the Justice Department’s immigration judges to help swiftly adjudicate an unprecedented number of deportation cases that were left by former President Joe Biden.

On Tuesday, the Associated Press (AP) reported that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has approved providing the Department of Justice (DOJ) with as many as 600 military lawyers to serve as federal immigration judges.

“The military will begin sending groups of 150 attorneys — both military and civilians — to the Justice Department “as soon as practicable,” and the military services should have the first round of people identified by next week, according to the Aug. 27 memo,” the AP reports.

Currently, there are about 600 immigration judges as the Trump administration fires judges that it has found to be too lax in giving out immigration benefits like asylum.

Breitbart laid out the key steps the Biden administration took to carry out a massive ‘quiet amnesty’ scheme.

First, they packed the immigration court with a historic 3.5 million cases – up from a little over 1 million when President Trump left office the first time. Next, illegal aliens facing deportation had their cases administratively closed, keeping them in the U.S.

More from the Associated Press:

The Justice Department, which oversees the immigration courts, requested the assistance from the Defense Department, according to the memo sent by the Pentagon’s executive secretary to his DOJ counterpart. The military lawyers’ duties as immigration judges will initially last no more than 179 days but can be renewed, it said.
