From Politico: President Donald Trump plans to appoint Dan Scavino, a longtime loyalist and White House deputy chief of staff, to run the Presidential Personnel Office, empowering him with the power to decide who can and cannot serve in the administration.
“Dan Scavino is one of President Trump’s most trusted and longest serving advisors,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “There is nobody better to ensure the president’s administration is staffed with the most qualified, competent, and America First-driven workers. There is much still to be done and Dan’s leadership will ensure the highest quality, most dedicated workforce ever.”
Scavino replaces Sergio Gor, who was tapped last week to serve as ambassador to India and as special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
Gor endeared himself to the president and his family for adopting a zero tolerance policy toward job-seekers who had been critical of Trump in the past, often scouring their social media posts and occasionally intervening to block hirings. But his aggressive approach also earned him detractors. Notably, former special adviser Elon Musk slammed Gor as “a snake,” accusing him of convincing Trump to pull the nomination of a Musk confidant to serve as the next NASA administrator.
Scavino, 49, from New York is one of President Trump’s most trusted, longtime aides. He first met Donald Trump in 1990 while he was a freshman in college and worked as a caddie and bag room assistant at Briar Hall Country Club. The Country Club was later acquired by Trump and renamed the Trump National Golf Club Westchester. In January 2004 Scavino became the club’s assistant manager, was promoted to general manager in April 2006, and then executive vice president in September 2008.
When Trump announced his 2016 presidential campaign in June 2015, Scavino came on board to work for the campaign, and has remained by the president’s side ever since, serving in the White House all four years of the first term, supporting Trump as an advisor throughout the four years he was out of the White House and through his 2024 campaign. Scavino then returned as White House Deputy Chief of Staff when Trump was inaugurated back into office in January.
Scavino frequently posts behind-the-scenes photos and videos on social media.
