From the Daily Caller: President Donald Trump convened his cabinet on Thursday to discuss the Department of Government Efficiency being run by Elon Musk and how it needs to start working with the federal agencies, he announced via a TruthSocial post.
Since taking office, Musk’s DOGE has dominated the headlines as he has gone from agency to agency with his team auditing department spending and employee efficiency. In late February, Musk instructed federal employees to provide him a list of five things they accomplished during the last week, but some department and agency heads instructed their staff to ignore the emails. Trump told his cabinet and Musk that they need to work on “cost cutting measures and staffing,” according to his Truth Social post.
In a Truth Social post Thursday, President Trump explained:
The Golden Age of America has just begun! Over the past six weeks, our Administration has delivered on promises like no Administration before it, always putting America First! DOGE has been an incredible success, and now that we have my Cabinet in place, I have instructed the Secretaries and Leadership to work with DOGE on Cost Cutting measures and Staffing.
As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go. We say the “scalpel” rather than the “hatchet.” The combination of them, Elon, DOGE, and other great people will be able to do things at a historic level.
We just had a meeting with most of the Secretaries, Elon, and others, and it was a very positive one. It’s very important that we cut levels down to where they should be, but it’s also important to keep the best and most productive people. We’re going to have these meetings every two weeks until that aspect of this very necessary job is done. The relationships between everybody in that room are extraordinary. They all want to get to the exact same place, which is, simply, to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
On Friday, an NBC reporter quizzed President Trump about rumors of a “clash” at the Cabinet meeting between Elon Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“No clash. I was there. You’re just a troublemaker…Elon gets along great with Marco. They’re both doing a fantastic job. There is no clash,” Trump retorted.

Transportation Sec. Sean Duffy wrote of the meeting on Thursday:
Thank you @POTUS for hosting another productive Cabinet meeting @WhiteHouse yesterday. It’s difficult to express just what a change it is to have such a fully engaged and in-command businessman at the helm leading our nation.
DOGE is doing incredible work helping agencies identity inefficiencies as well as advising us as we work on the critical upgrades to our air traffic control system. During the Cabinet meeting, I discussed the importance of safety, particularly at the FAA and with air traffic controllers. The DEI Department at the FAA was eliminated on day 2.
The President’s approach of a scalpel versus a hatchet and better coordination between Secretaries and DOGE is the right approach to revolutionizing the way our government is run. @USDOT will continue to work closely with @elonmusk and his team to revolutionize the way government is run. This is an exciting time to be an American! 🇺🇸
