From the New York Post: President Trump stood by national security adviser Mike Waltz on Tuesday, one day after he was revealed to have looped in the Atlantic magazine’s editor-in-chief on deliberations about striking the Houthis in Yemen earlier this month.

“Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man,” the president told NBC News in a brief interview Tuesday.

Trump, 78, added that the addition of Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal group that included Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had “no impact at all” on the outcome of the March 15 airstrikes, which the president described as “perfectly successful.”

“The only glitch in two months,” the president said, “and it turned out not to be a serious one.”

Speculation had been rampant since Goldberg revealed his participation in the group chat Monday that the snafu would cost the former Florida congressman his job, but the White House has repeatedly expressed confidence in Waltz’s ability.

When asked who was responsible for mistakenly adding Goldberg to the chat, Trump reportedly said, “It was one of Michael’s people on the phone. A staffer had his number on there.”

NBC’s Garrett Haake shared Trump’s reaction in a series of posts on X.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has posted two statements Tuesday morning.    First, she wrote:

Jeffrey Goldberg is well-known for his sensationalist spin. Here are the facts about his latest story:

1. No “war plans” were discussed.
2. No classified material was sent to the thread.
3. The White House Counsel’s Office has provided guidance on a number of different platforms for President Trump’s top officials to communicate as safely and efficiently as possible.

As the National Security Council stated, the White House is looking into how Goldberg’s number was inadvertently added to the thread.

Thanks to the strong and decisive leadership of President Trump, and everyone in the group, the Houthi strikes were successful and effective. Terrorists were killed and that’s what matters most to President Trump.

Leavitt then added: “As I said yesterday, the President continues to have confidence in his national security team, including Mike Waltz. Stories claiming otherwise are driven by anonymous sources who clearly do not speak to the President, and written by reporters who are thirsty for a “scoop.”

Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade commented on the situation Tuesday morning, saying, “Obviously it was a mistake. What I’m reading in Politico is that Mike Waltz is in trouble. There’s not a chance in heck. The thing that gets you in trouble with President Trump is disloyalty and duplicity not mistakes.🤔.”

Other reactions are pouring in, as questions are still swirling over the fiasco. The most common question among conservatives is why did Waltz even have Goldberg’s contact information?

Sean Davis of The Federalist wrote, “I’m a lot less interested in how J.D. Vance is trying to keep the defense bureaucracy aligned with Trump’s foreign policy message and vision, and a lot more concerned about why Mike Waltz is regularly talking to Jeffrey Goldberg, a dead-end neocon war pimp who has been involved with every major foreign policy hoax of the last quarter century.”

Andrew Fisher suggested who MAY have been responsible for the mistake… and who was likely supposed to be added instead of Jeffrey Goldberg.

“Most likely, it was Waltz’s deputy, Alex Wong, who created the group chat and accidentally added Goldberg instead of Jamieson Greer (JG).” [Jamieson Greer serves as the U.S. Trade Representative.]

“It was just a heads-up chat group for coordination among deputies and staff from different branches of Intel—hard to believe anything sensitive would be shared. But, of course, you have that hoax propagandist Goldberg spinning it.”

Paul Sperry of Real Clear Investigations asked, “What in the world was N.S.A. Waltz calling the execrable Jeffrey Goldberg in the first place? Goldberg’s The Atlantic editor who manufactured Oct Surprise hit piece alleging Trump called fallen vets “losers.”Waltz had Goldberg in his contacts which means he’d been a source of his.”

Author Hans Mahncke wrote, “No one shared any war plans—Goldberg fabricated that part, just like he’s fabricated countless other Trump hoaxes. He took a dumb but ultimately trivial screw-up by Waltz and blew it up into Watergate 2.0. The only remaining question is why Waltz had Goldberg in his contact list.”

Investigative journalist Laura Loomer wrote, “All I want to know is why an admin official even had the signal of a Lefty reporter who hates Trump. You only use Signal to communicate with reporters when you’re not supposed to be talking to them… Everyone knows that. You don’t use signal with people you are supposed to be talking to in your professional capacity. People use signal to hide conversations.”

Some Republicans are focusing on greater issue, saying the former administration did nothing about the Houthi terrorists, and the Trump administration is putting an end to their attacks.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin wrote: “A vegetable in the White House sat on his hands while Houthi terrorists attacked U.S. warships 174 times (and commercial vessels 145 times) since 2023. @POTUS has taken decisive action to re-establish deterrence and accountability for foreign terrorists who threaten Americans.”

Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) wrote:

While Joe Biden played possum on Rehoboth beach, President Trump is taking the fight to the Houthis.

The Houthis have launched more than 300 attacks on U.S. warships and commercial vessels since 2003. Secretary Hegseth, NSA Waltz, and the entire Trump administration formulated an effective strategy that is crippling the Houthis and their puppet masters in Tehran. The end result was the Houthis finally faced some justice for their atrocities.

Give me the Secretary of Defense and National Security Advisor who actually stepped up and made our enemies pay for having messed with the United States. Let’s finish off the terrorists and keep America safe.
