From the Associated Press: Michel Bérrios left the United States a few days before the new year, giving President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign for mass deportations a small victory before they even started.

A former leader of a Nicaraguan student uprising, Bérrios had been in the U.S. legally, with nearly a year remaining under President Joe Biden’s unprecedented use of humanitarian parole authority for citizens of certain vulnerable countries. But harsh talk during the U.S. election campaign filled her with anxious memories of hiding from authorities back home.

Advocates and immigration experts who have noticed such departures say Bérrios’ decision to leave the U.S., despite her legal status, shows how uncertainty and threats have led a growing number of people to leave before Trump takes office on Monday.

There isn’t data on these departures, but history has seen other eras of public backlash that drove migrants — with or without legal status — out.

According to the report, Bérrios, 31, had been living with her cousin in California, east of San Francisco, working at the front desk of an auto repair shop.

Just days before leaving the U.S., Bérrios, complained, “Because (the U.S.) is not a Third World country like the ones many of us come from, I thought there would be a different culture here, and it was a rude awakening to realize that you and your family are not welcome.”

Meanwhile, podcast host Bill Mitchell released his plan that he says will result in massive self-deportations:

BETTER THAN A WALL:
You want to stop illegal immigration dead in it’s tracks and create mass self-deportation?

1. Cut off all aid to illegals. No food stamps, no health care, no housing.
2. Block banks from allowing illegals to open an account.
3. Fine and/or jail employers who hire illegals.
4. Fine landlords for renting or selling to illegals.

THE PLAN:
Announce that these measures will go into effect in a year. Any illegals seeking relocation assistance will be granted – it will cost hundreds of billions less than having them here. But they must take advantage of this in the next year or they will be arrested and deported forcefully.

If you want to get rid of roaches, stop leaving food out on the counter.

The reason we must make this a year deadline is that these people need time to get out. You cannot have 20 million starving illegals on the streets. It would be chaos.
