From the New York Post: The Kremlin on Thursday blasted President Trump’s historic mineral rights deal with Ukraine inked a day earlier, sarcastically praising the US leader for making a deal with a nation that will soon “disappear.”

“Trump has finally pressured the Kyiv regime to pay for US aid with mineral resources,” Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on Telegram.

“Now, the country that is about to disappear will have to use its national wealth to pay for military supplies.”

Unlike military aid packages under the Biden administration, Ukraine would pay the United States for these weapons — benefiting both Kyiv’s defense and the US defense industry without the use of American taxpayer dollars.

The report explains that the arrangement stipulates that the U.S. and Ukraine will split all profits from licenses for new oil, gas and minerals mining in Ukraine in a mutual fund. However, there are no requirements that the US must allow Ukraine to purchase weapons as part of the deal.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced, “Thanks to @POTUS @realDonaldTrump’s tireless efforts to secure a lasting peace, I am glad to announce the signing of today’s historic economic partnership agreement between the United States and Ukraine establishing the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund to help accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery. Economic security is national security.

“@DFCgov will work closely with the Government of Ukraine to establish this fund, and we look forward to quickly operationalizing this historic economic partnership for both the Ukrainian and American people.”

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) wrote, “President Trump’s US-Ukraine Minerals Deal is a masterstroke. Ukraine is now a permanent partner to the United States and both sides will benefit greatly. The next step is strong secondary sanctions on Russia.”

Former VP Mike Pence praised the deal, writing, “This is real progress and President @realDonaldTrump and his administration are to be commended. Securing American access to Ukraine’s minerals and establishing an investment fund for Ukraine reconstruction is a win for both our nations. As Russia continues its brutal invasion, this historic agreement sends a deafening message to Moscow that America will continue to stand with Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved.🇺🇸🇺🇦”

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said, “President Trump’s new mineral deal puts America first. Unlike the Biden Administration, who gave billions of dollars away freely to Ukraine, the new deal prioritizes American taxpayers. This is a win for both the U.S. and Ukraine.”
