REPORT: Republicans slam Harris over ‘photo op’ stop at Arizona border

From Fox News: Vice President Kamala Harris’ battleground border state visit on Friday is being panned by House Republicans whose districts represent the front lines of the current migrant crisis.

At issue is Harris’ campaign stop in Douglas, a border town in the key state of Arizona, that comes less than six weeks before voters head to the polls to pick the next president.

“I have been consistent in my willingness to work with anyone – on either side of the aisle – to address the crisis at the border,” Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., told Fox News Digital. “However, Vice President Harris’ visit to the border smells like nothing more than a photo opportunity to try and score political points.”

Ciscomani is just one of several GOP lawmakers from border districts who are accusing Harris of caring more about optics than results. They have long blamed the Biden administration for the record number of illegal border crossings since Democrats took office, and Harris’ handling of the border is one of Republicans’ most significant political cudgels against her.

Harris’ visit to the border comes on the same day that a damning report was released by ICE, revealing that the Biden-Harris administration has released 425,431 convicted criminals and 222,141 with pending criminal charges into the United States, including over 13,000 convicted murderers.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Ks.) pointed to the illegal alien criminal report and wrote, “Kamala Harris has let in nearly HALF A MILLION convicted criminals who are roaming free across America – our communities are not safe, and she is directly responsible. What will Border Czar Harris say about this tonight at her photo op at the border? We cannot handle another four years of the Biden-Harris Admin’s open border policies.”

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) declared, “Kamala Harris is the Open Border Czar.”

In another post from his personal X account, Issa wrote, “Everyone knows Harris broke the border and she has no intention of fixing it.”

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Az.) wrote, “Kamala’s visit to the border is nothing more than a photo op. I’ll also be visiting the border today. Keep an eye out for updates on the REAL border crisis.”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.) blasted Harris:

“Today in Arizona – “Border Czar” @KamalaHarris will be LYING again about the so-called bipartisan border bill… IT’S FAKE NEWS. It had NO chance to pass even the DEMOCRAT-led Senate… it would have codified the Biden-Harris mass release of criminals that has killed Americans! It was beyond a joke – it was harmful. That’s why Congressional Republicans rightly OPPOSED the bill before President Trump spoke about it, and it’s why @RealDonaldTrump is 100% correct to have opposed it, loudly! Democrats are killing Americans for political power. Think about that. ENOUGH! #HR2 #SecureBorderNow.”

Sen. Dr. Roger Marshall (R-Ks.) shared an old video and wrote, “Kamala Harris is doing a photo op for political points at the border in the eleventh hour, less than 40 days before the election. FLASHBACK to just how important visiting the border has been for Border Czar Kamala Harris:”

The Border Patrol Union released a scorching statement:

“After years of not just ignoring the problem, but helping create it, Vice President Kamala Harris is finally headed down to the border. This is nothing more than for her to check the box, but what it is in reality is a slap in the face towards the men and women that put their lives on the line every day, and also a slap in the face to the American public. Where has she been?”  – Art Del Cueto, VP, National Border Patrol Council.

Prominent X user American AF mocked, “LOL. Kamala Harris has arrived at the border for the first time since 2021. 20 million people later.”

Conservative strategist Greg Price commented on a video of Harris examining the border wall:

“Kamala Harris is now touring the wall on the southern border — which she has reliably informed us is a racist vanity project and that her administration stopped building on day one when they took power 3.5 years ago.”

Journalist Collin Rugg posted a video clip of Harris talking to Border Patrol agents on Friday and wrote:

JUST IN: Kamala Harris visits the southern border for the first time in three years after letting over 10 million illegals enter the country. Harris, who is suddenly pro-wall, previously called the wall Trump’s “medieval vanity project.”

“Trump’s border wall is a complete waste of taxpayer money and won’t make us any safer,” she previously said. Since Harris entered office and became “Border Czar,” over 400,000 convicted criminals have been released into the public.

Podcast host Carl DeMaio declared, “We do not need another photo op of Kamala Harris at a sanitized border in Arizona. Kamala Harris, come to San Diego, come see what your administration’s policies have done to our community!”
