From the Daily Caller: CNN dismissed President Donald Trump’s claims about falling grocery prices just weeks before government data confirmed the sharpest monthly decline in food-at-home costs in nearly five years.
The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed the food-at-home index dipping 0.4% in April — the steepest drop since September 2020 — with egg prices alone falling 12.7%, the biggest one-month plunge since 1984. Those numbers landed Tuesday, the same day CNN Business conceded the president’s previous claims about egg prices are “true now.”
CNN had previously taken a hard line against the idea that grocery prices in general were falling.
“Trump claimed last Thursday and Friday that grocery prices ‘are down’ and then claimed Tuesday that they have ‘come down.’ False again,” CNN reporter Daniel Dale wrote on April 23, citing March data that still showed modest increases.
After repeatedly mocking President Trump and claiming he was lying about egg prices coming down, CNN posted a report Monday titled, “Trump’s egg price fiction has suddenly become reality.”
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins posted a screenshot of CNN’s latest report and wrote, “This is UNBELIEVABLE. The whole story is that @POTUS is lying about egg prices going down, but egg prices are going down…. Give me a break @cnn. You just can’t make this up. 🤦🏻♀️🤨.”

Your own article lays it out, @CNN. Trump’s egg prices aren’t fiction at all:
✅ Egg prices have dropped 12.7%— biggest decline since 1984
✅Average price now $3.30, down 69 cents in just a week
✅ Remarkable reversal after prices surged for 17 of the last 19 months pic.twitter.com/oAcSM7f86k

Uh, it was certainly true.
Egg prices were down over 50% since Trump took office:
Jan. 21, 2025: $6.55
Mar. 18, 2025: $5.50
May 7 $3.30
