A festival in Solingen, Germany, turned into chaos when a stabbing spree left three people dead, according to Fox News.

The attack occurred near the town’s central square around 9:35 p.m. during a celebration of Solingen’s 650th anniversary. Witnesses reported that the suspect, believed to have used a knife, remained at large.

Photos from the scene showed police securing the area and ambulances attending to the victims. In a translated social media post, Solingen’s mayor, Tim Kurzbach, expressed shock and sadness over the attack.

“We all wanted to celebrate our city’s anniversary together, and now we must mourn the dead and injured,” he wrote.

The mayor offered prayers for the victims and gratitude to emergency responders, urging others to join him in either prayer or hope.
