REPORT: President Trump hits Zelenskyy with stern warning as he threatens to back out of rare mineral deal

From Fox News: President Donald Trump said Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is trying to back out of a rare earth deal with the U.S., adding if he does that he is going to have “some problems.”

“I think Zelenskyy, by the way, he’s trying to back out of the rare earth deal, and if he does that, he’s got some problems – big, big problems,” Trump said while speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday. “We made a deal on rare earths, and now he’s saying, ‘well, you know, I want to renegotiate the deal.’ He wants to be a member of NATO. Well, he was never going to be a member of NATO. He understands that, so, if he’s looking to renegotiate the deal, he’s got big problems.”

Zelenskyy said last month that Ukraine is ready to sign an agreement on minerals and security with the U.S. at any time, noting that the agreement is seen as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees.

Of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said, “I don’t think he’s going to go back on his word.”

Meanwhile, Finland President Alexander Stubb said in an interview with Fox Business, “[President Trump] is probably the only person in the world who can mediate peace between Ukraine and Russia. Why? Because Putin respects and in many ways fears Donald Trump.”

Zelenskyy released the following statement after speaking with Stubb about his recent meeting with President Trump in Florida.

I spoke with the President of Finland @alexstubb. I thanked him for all the support Finland is providing, and we discussed ways to strengthen joint efforts with our partners to establish a lasting peace and ensure security.

Alexander shared details of his meeting with @POTUS. We are ready to work with our American partners as meaningful and quickly as possible to bring peace closer. There is also a common understanding that the ceasefire must be unconditional and reliable.

Right now, Russia continues looking for excuses to drag this war out even further. Putin is playing the same game he has since 2014. This is dangerous for everyone — and there should be an appropriate response from the United States, Europe, and all our global partners who seek peace.

We need to engage more with America, find ways to force Russia into peace, and work on security guarantees, which must become our next step after the ceasefire.

Thank you for the support and for all efforts to end the war and achieve a dignified peace.
