From Fox News: Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., no longer sits on the powerful House Rules Committee after he was the only Republican to vote against Speaker Mike Johnson in the House leadership election.

Fox News explained that Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Va., a member of the House Freedom Caucus, has succeeded Massie on the Rules Committee.

However, Massie clarified that he volunteered to step aside, debunking any theories that he was ousted in some revenge move.

Massie announced in a post on X, “I volunteered to step aside if the Speaker wanted to place someone else on the Rules Committee and he chose that option. This was not retribution for my vote against him.”

“I look forward to continuing my work on the Judiciary and Transportation committees,” he added.

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), who previously chaired the Education and Workforce Committee, will now lead the panel since Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Tex.) has retired.

Foxx said in a statement, “I am humbled and honored to have been selected as Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee – and I thank @SpeakerJohnson for placing his trust and faith in me to lead this esteemed committee.”

“On November 5th, the American people gave President Trump and Congressional Republicans a mandate to turn our Republic around and move towards a brighter and more prosperous future. Our Republican majority in the People’s House will achieve that end, and we will deliver upon President Trump’s agenda with diligence and expediency. I look forward to contributing to this great American turnaround – let’s get to work,” she added.
