On the very same day that the Justice Department moved to officially dismiss the corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the mayor announced he is filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration.

From the New York Post: Mayor Eric Adams plans to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration next week after the feds secretly clawed back more than $80 million in migrant funding from New York City’s coffers, according to a letter obtained by The Post.

Counsel for the Adams administration issued a letter to city Comptroller Brad Lander Friday stating that the city’s Law Department is looking to take legal action by Feb. 21 to recoup the $80.5 million Federal Emergency Management Agency payments taken by the feds on Tuesday.

“The Law Department is currently drafting litigation papers with respect to this matter,” the letter, penned by corporation counsel Mureil Goode-Trufant, said.

“We intend to initiate legal action by February 21, 2025. As the Law Department is representing the City of New York in this matter, there is no need for an authorization for the Comptroller’s Office to engage external legal counsel.”

The New York Post explains that “New York City applied for and was awarded two separate grants of $58.6 million and $21.9 million under the Biden administration as city officials scrambled for federal help to pay for the costs shouldered for sheltering migrants who flowed over the US-Mexico border.”

DOGE leader Elon Musk had announced earlier this week, “The @DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59MILLION LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants. Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order. That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals! A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds.”

The next day, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced, “I have clawed back the full payment that FEMA deep state activists unilaterally gave to NYC migrant hotels. FEMA was funding the Roosevelt Hotel that serves as a Tren de Aragua base of operations and was used to house Laken Riley’s killer. Mark my words: there will not be a single penny spent that goes against the interest and safety of the American people.”

Now Adams is fighting to get the money back, and will be suing the same Trump administration who just got him off the hook from the corruption charges the Biden administration had filed against him.

Meanwhile, Adams also announced on Friday, “Today, we’re announcing that the last asylum seeker tent shelter is coming DOWN. Earlier this month, I visited the Randall’s Island shelter as the last migrants were preparing to move on, and now the Creedmoor shelter will soon be closing as well.”

“Our city has seen seven months of decreases in our shelter population, and 80% of those in our care have taken the next steps in their journeys. Because of these efforts, we’ll be able to close another six sites which we will detail soon,” he added.

Adams also posted the following statement on Friday:

I want to be crystal clear with New Yorkers: I never offered — nor did anyone offer on my behalf — any trade of my authority as your mayor for an end to my case. Never.

I am solely beholden to the 8.3 million New Yorkers that I represent and I will always put this city first. Now, we must put this difficult episode behind us so that trust can be restored, New York can move forward, and we can continue delivering for the people of this city.
