REPORT: Muslims Gloat over Zohran Mamdani’s Election Victory

From Breitbart: Islamic advocates are gloating over the election of a Muslim immigrant to the mayoralty of New York City.

“America’s Mayor is an American Muslim Immigrant,” declared the Pakistani-born lawyer and journalist Qasim Rashid as he celebrated Zohran Mamdani’s win.

Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) cheered, writing, “Alhamdulillah,” which is an Arabic word that means “Praise be to God” or “All praise is due to Allah”.

She was responding to a post celebrating both Mamdani’s victory, as well as Ghazala Hashmi, the first Muslim woman to win the race for Lt. Governor of Virginia.

CAIR National, the Muslim civil rights organization that has deep ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, also celebrated Mamdani’s victory, while praising the pro-Hamas students who created havoc on college campuses with their violent anti-Israel protests.  CAIR’s statement reads:

BREAKING: CAIR congratulates @ZohranKMamdani on his historic election as Mayor of New York City and we congratulate the people of New York City, including many New York Muslims, for exercising their right to vote in massive numbers.

The election of New York City’s first Muslim mayor represents a historic turning point for American Muslim political engagement. Mayor-Elect Mamdani’s ability to win while openly advocating for Palestinian human rights and experiencing a barrage of anti-Muslim hate also marks a historic rebuke of both Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism in politics.

We commend the college students and other young people in New York City who, just one year after being smeared and brutalized for protesting the genocide in Gaza, helped elect a mayor who vocally opposes that genocide and supports the right to peaceful protest.

Regardless of whether anyone agrees with Mayor-Elect Mamdani’s stances on various policies issues, all Americans should celebrate our nation for once again showing that America is a place where people of all races, faiths and backgrounds can make history. #NYC

Asif Mahmood, a former congressional candidate and a Democratic bundler who helped fundraise for Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris, also cheered Mamdani’s victory.

“Congratulations to Zorhan Mamdani on his historic victory as NYC’s first Muslim American mayor and first mayor of South Asian descent! 🎉 His uplifting campaign brilliantly contrasts the bigotry and negativity of his rivals. A heartfelt thank you to the voters of NYC and to all supporters especially Sen. Bernie Sanders, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and AOC and the campaign staff and volunteers who have ushered in this momentous change. Together, you’ve helped send a powerful message against bigotry, hate and Islamophobia with victory!” he wrote.

Raza Ahmad Rumi, a lecturer at City University of New York who is originally from Pakistan, celebrated by posting a video from Mamdani’s victory speech, as he gloats, “New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, led by an immigrant.”
