REPORT: Movie director declares he’s ditching the Democratic Party for good after Trump win

From Fox News: “The Big Short” director Adam McKay went on a tear against the Democratic Party in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s victory Tuesday, declaring he’s ditching the party for good.

“It is time to abandon the Dem Party,” McKay wrote on X. “I’m registering Green Party or Working Families. But am open to ideas.”

The director ripped the Democratic Party for what he deemed a series of missteps leading up to Election Day, including how they handled President Biden bowing out of the race to make way for Vice President Kamala Harris on the ticket.

McKay has in recent years championed progressive causes and has donated millions of dollars to fight climate change. His activism has also bled into his work. His movie “Don’t Look Up,” for instance, served as a critique of a lack of action when it comes to protecting the environment. The 2021 satire film centered on two scientists who try in vain to warn the world about a planet-destroying comet.

However, McKay isn’t ditching the Democrat Party to become a Republican. Far from it.  Based on his social media activity, he appears to be upset with the Democrats for not being radical and progressive enough.  He slams the Democrat Party for running a terrible presidential campaign, for teaming up with Liz Cheney, for accepting ‘big money,’ and for giving them a candidate who couldn’t win.

In one set of posts, he wrote:

Who would have guessed lying about Biden’s cognitive health for 2 yrs, refusing to do an open convention for a new nominee, never mentioning public healthcare & embracing fracking, the Cheneys & a yr long slaughter of children in Gaza wouldn’t be a winning strategy?

Anyone with half a brain? But I thought liberals’ whole thing is being smart? It’s not?
They actually just blindly cheer the parade of rickety optics wrapped up in New York Times fonts that is the modern Dem Party?

“Well at least it’s time for the dusty hacks & careerists to spread their feathers wide post election and blame Russia and third party candidates. That should fix things,” McKay mocked.

McKay re-posted messages celebrating the re-election of Palestinian-American Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, all  progressive radicals.

He also re-posted a statement lamenting that California voters passed a law increasing penalties for theft and drug possession. “More prison slave labor. Jesus. But how would most people know? Our legacy news media needs to be shuttered fast,” McKay fumed.

McKay also re-posted a comment slamming people who “ripped of their masks” and “sent kids back into unsafe schools.”

Multiple other posts include rants about climate change, including this: “The election is over. Is there one good reason Biden shouldn’t declare a climate emergency tomorrow #ClimateActionNow.”

“The real way Trump wins is if we don’t abandon or take over the DNC. It’s time for a real opposition party,” he wrote.

McKay received backlash from X user Michael Hamilton, who wrote: “No, it’s not time to abandon the Democrat Party. It’s time to purge the once useful Party of the Progressive Jihadists that have hijacked it!! America needs two Parties. It doesn’t need hate filled A-holes who look to divide the country at every level!! America has overwhelmingly rejected Progressivism and now it’s time for SANE DEMOCRATS to take back their Party.”
