REPORT: Minnesota health care owner charged with yearslong Medicaid scam topping $3M

From Fox News: Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison on Wednesday charged a Minneapolis man with more than $3 million in Medicaid fraud tied to a state-licensed home health agency.

Mohamed Abdirashid Omarxeyd was charged with eight counts of felony theft by false representation after prosecutors said he used his company, Guardian Home Health Services, to bill Minnesota’s Medicaid program for services that were never provided or were ineligible for reimbursement from 2020 through 2024.

According to the criminal complaint, Guardian submitted fraudulent claims for personal care aide services, companion care, homemaking, respite care, individualized home support and other community support services. State officials have designated many of these services as “high-risk” for fraud.

Prosecutors allege Omarxeyd and his wife siphoned more than $2 million from the company’s accounts during the scheme.

In a press release, Ellison, a Democrat, released the following statement:

“Defrauding programs that provide healthcare to low-income Minnesotans is a truly despicable act. That’s why I charged one such fraudster who stole over $3 million from the people of Minnesota. This action is the latest in our ongoing work to root out fraudsters and hold accountable those who steal from Medicaid. Since I first took office, my team and I have prosecuted over 300 cases of Medicaid fraud and won over $80 million in restitution and recoveries, and we will continue to do all we can to protect our tax dollars and the services Minnesotans rely on.”

Podcaster Troy Neff wrote, “Another day, another multi-million dollar fraud case in Minnesota. Mohamed Abdirashid Omarxeyd is charged with stealing $3.2M from Medicaid, a scheme that ran for 4 YEARS, 2020-2024, under the state’s nose. Why is the MN govt always playing catch-up? We need accountability, not just press releases after the money is gone.”

Meanwhile, the big issue Ellison IS responding to in real time is an effort to stop federal immigration agents from apprehending criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota.

He touted this week that he has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration “to end the unlawful and unprecedented surge of ICE agents in Minnesota.”

“People are being racially profiled, harassed, terrorized, and assaulted,” he claimed.

Ellison is also providing fuel to the opposition, as he urged “those who have personally experienced or directly witnessed that harm to share their stories with my office.”
