REPORT: Meta removes ICE-tracking Facebook page at the request of the DOJ

From NBC News: Meta has removed a Facebook page used to track the presence of immigration agents at the request of the Department of Justice, the company confirmed on Tuesday.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a post on X that “following outreach” from the DOJ, Facebook removed a “large group page” that was being used to target ICE officials.

Meta said in a statement that the group “was removed for violating our policies against coordinated harm.”

Meta is the latest tech company to restrict tools used to track ICE agents on its platform. Earlier this month, Apple and Google blocked downloads of phone apps that flag sightings of U.S. immigration agents, just hours after the Trump administration demanded that one particularly popular iPhone app be taken down.

Bondi announced Tuesday morning:

Today following outreach from @thejusticedept, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target @ICEgov agents in Chicago.

The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) replied, “Thank you for your efforts to protect law enforcement, @AGPamBondi. I’ve voiced concerns over Big Tech platforms being used to dox ICE agents and their families, and I’m pleased that this administration is treating these threats with urgency.”

However, as soon as one page was yanked down, another was created. On Monday a new Facebook “public group” page was launched, called, “ICE Sightings – Chicagoland 2.” That group already has 5.9k members, is is open to the public.

“Share any ICE sighting in the Chicagoland area! Let this be the centralized group everyone can be informed,” the page description reads.

The group is already filled with posts of people warning of seeing ICE agents in certain areas of the city.  So far, that group is still going strong.
