From Fox News: A federal judge appointed by former President Joe Biden was assigned to preside over the Department of Justice’s prosecution of former FBI Director James Comey, who stands accused of lying to Congress.
Judge Michael Nachmanoff of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia set an arraignment for Oct. 9 in the case involving one of President Donald Trump’s top political nemeses.
Nachmanoff is a former public defender, which lawyer William Shipley said is a sign that he might not be an “activist progressive judge.” Shipley, a former longtime federal prosecutor who defended dozens of Jan. 6 defendants, said in a social media post that Nachmanoff might be the “best potential draw” of the district’s Biden-appointed judges.
“He does not have a background that suggests ‘progressive’ activism as is true of many Biden appointed district judges, particularly those in the last 2 years of his Admin,” Shipley wrote.
Judge Michael Nachmanoff, 57, was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Arlington, Virginia. Recommended by Democrat Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, Nachmanoff was appointed by Joe Biden in 2021 and confirmed by the Senate the same year in a 52-46 vote. Three Republicans, Sens. Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham and Lisa Murkowski all joined Democrats to support him.
The report notes that Nachmanoff has already sided with the Trump administration in one case, supporting the CIA’s firing of Dr. Terry Adirim, who had a role in mandating vaccines in the military under the Biden administration.
President Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Friday morning:
Whether you like Corrupt James Comey or not, and I can’t imagine too many people liking him, HE LIED! It is not a complex lie, it’s a very simple, but IMPORTANT one. There is no way he can explain his way out of it. He is a Dirty Cop, and always has been, but he was just assigned a Crooked Joe Biden appointed Judge, so he’s off to a very good start.
Nevertheless, words are words, and he wasn’t hedging or in dispute. He was very positive, there was no doubt in his mind about what he said, or meant by saying it. He left himself ZERO margin of error on a big and important answer to a question. He just got unexpectedly caught. James “Dirty Cop” Comey was a destroyer of lives. He knew exactly what he was saying, and that it was a very serious and far reaching lie for which a very big price must be paid! President DJT
