From the New York Post: An evacuation order issued across Los Angeles County sent residents battling the historic wildfires into panic — until they realized minutes later the alert was sent by mistake.

Phone alarms sounded Thursday night when a message came through urging residents to “gather loved ones, pets, and supplies” and evacuate their homes.

“An EVACUATION WARNING has been issued in your area,” the text alert read.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn admitted on X that the alert was a mistake — sending already frustrated residents into a fury over the frightening blunder.

“I have been informed the evacuation warning that many of us just received on our phones was mistakenly issued countywide due to a technical error. A correction will be issued shortly,” Hahn announced on X.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, who lives in the area, shared a photo and wrote: “Appears an evacuation warning was just accidentally sent out to all of Los Angeles County.
@FOXLA colleague @Elex_Michaelson saying he’s hearing the same. Not helpful. A ton of people, including me, just got this alert.”

“Confirmed by LA County Supervisor. A massive screw up that likely caused some widespread panic,” Melugin added.

In another post, Melugin continued, “LA County – which shoveled millions of taxpayer dollars to crisis communication PR firms during COVID via no bid contracts, just sent out an accidental evacuation alert to millions of people who are already on edge as a result of catastrophic wildfires. Massive fail.”
