FROM DAILY MAILA woman with close family ties to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has been arrested by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers.

Bruna Ferreira was taken into custody in Revere, Massachusetts, and is currently being held at an ICE facility in southern Louisiana. She has an 11-year-old son with Leavitt’s brother, Michael Leavitt. The little boy, Michael Leavitt Junior, is named after his father.

Ferreira arrived in the United States when she was a child along with her family, who had traveled from Brazil. Her lawyer said she had arrived in 1998 under the federally protected DACA program and was in the process of getting her residency.

Michael Leavitt responded to the story with a statement saying his son lives with him and his wife full-time. He said the boy maintains a relationship with his biological mother as well.

According to WBUR, Michael Leavitt said in a statement, “My only concern has always been the safety, wellbeing, and privacy of my son.”

Karoline Leavitt declined to comment on the arrest, but an administration official said, “Karoline had no involvement whatsoever in this matter.”

A source told the Daily Mail that Leavitt has not spoken withFerreira in many years.

WBUR reports:

Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that Ferreira had a “previous arrest for battery.” She entered the U.S. on a tourist visa that required her to leave the U.S. in 1999, McLaughlin said.

“Under President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem, all individuals unlawfully present in the United States are subject to deportation,” McLaughlin said.
