REPORT: Journalist Matt Taibbi Files $10 Million Libel Lawsuit Against Democratic Congress Member

From the Daily Caller: Twitter files journalist Matt Taibbi filed a $10 million libel lawsuit against Democratic California Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove on Thursday after she accused him of being a “serial sexual harasser.”

Kamlager-Dove made the accusations Tuesday during a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing and later amplified them on social media. The congresswoman’s claims are “demonstrably false and were made with actual malice,” Taibbi’s lawsuit states.

Below is Kamlager-Dove’s wild allegation against Taibbi, in which she called him a “serial sexual harasser” and entered articles into the congressional record. One of the articles she referenced was a wild op-ed in the Washington Post from 2017, which appears to be about a satire book Taibbi had written 20 years earlier.

Kamlager-Dove then commented on the video, writing, “After this, Republicans gave Matt Taibbi time to defend himself. It’s telling that he didn’t.”

Journalist Glenn Greenwald fired back, “You’re a pathetic smear artist, exploiting #MeToo as though you give a shit about it (can’t wait until you cheer Andrew Cuomo’s candidacy the way Dems cheer Biden and Bill Clinton. You spread a discredited and retracted story and now you’re getting justifiably sued.”

Taibbi responded Thursday, writing, “There is not much a person can say to a member of Congress hiding behind the speech and debate clause of the Constitution. I can however respond to a member arrogant enough to repeat defamatory claims on social media. See below for the $10 million libel lawsuit filed today.”

“No woman has ever accused me of engaging in sexual harassment once, let alone serially. See you in court. Please do not evade service,” Taibbi continued.

“The articles do not back up any claim of sexual harassment. There is a reference to a chapter in a book I co-wrote that everyone involved, including the women in question, agree is fiction. I have never been accused of any kind of sexual indiscretion,” Tabbi added.

Responding to a critic, Taibbi added, “I wasn’t accused of cruel or gratuitous writing. Then and now, I was accused of a sex crime, It boggles my mind that so few erstwhile “liberals” care that it’s not true. I’ve been around a long time. I’ve never even been accused of a suggestive glance. Enough is enough.”
