REPORT: Illegal alien flashes beaming smile in arrest photo after allegedly battering a federal officer

From Fox News: A 21-year-old illegal immigrant brandished a beaming smile as he posed for an arrest photo in Polk County, Florida, on Tuesday after allegedly battering a federal officer.

The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officer suffered an injured shoulder after the suspect, Denis Corea Miranda, fought back when two agents tried to take him into custody in Lakeland, officials said.

“This is the first time we’ve had an agent injured in the line of duty, and he was significantly injured,” said Sheriff Grady Judd at a press conference Tuesday.

“Now the state of Florida and the taxpayers of Polk are going to have to pay for it,” he said. “The state’s got to provide him with an attorney to represent him, and then the state’s got to prosecute him.”

The Polk County Sheriff’s Department posted photos on X and wrote, ” This is Denis Corea Miranda, 21, in the country illegally from Nicaragua. He fought with federal agents as they were taking him into custody in #Lakeland this morning. He fled, PCSO set up a perimeter, and we got him.”

In a second post, the sheriff’s department added:

Miranda was read Miranda and his PCSO charges are:
Burglary – occupied (F1)
Battery on a law enforcement officer (F2)
Resisting arrest with violence – 2 cts (F2)
Resisting arrest without violence – 2 cts (F3)
False imprisonment (F2)

Sheriff Grady, well known for his no-nonsense, plain spoken and sometimes humorous style, held a press conference Tuesday and shared more details on the dramatic case.

Grady noted that Miranda came across the border illegally during the Biden administration and was simply given a court date and released into the country.

Federal agents got a tip that Miranda was staying at a specific address. While watching the home, they saw him get into a vehicle with two other people, so they followed the vehicle, then pulled them over.

That’s when Miranda got into a violent scuffle with one of the agents and then took off running.  After agents finally caught him, he admitted that he fought back and ran because he “didn’t want to be deported.”

Grady blasted the illegal alien for smiling for his mugshot, and said, “I bet he’s not smiling now.”

The other two people in the vehicle the agents stopped were also illegal aliens, and were taken into custody as well.

Sheriff Grady blasted the Biden administration for their “catch and release” policies that allowed the illegal alien to remain free, and now a federal agent is injured as a result, and will cost taxpayers “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
