REPORT: Ilhan Omar erupts at own party for ‘inexcusable’ decision on socialist candidate

From Fox News: A progressive House “Squad” member is attacking her own state party leadership for going back on its endorsement of a self-described democratic socialist to be mayor of Minneapolis.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., called out the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), the Democrats’ affiliate group in Minnesota, late on Thursday night after it revoked its endorsement of state Sen. Omar Fateh.

DFL leaders cited “substantial failures” in its endorsement convention process.

Axios shared additional details on why the DFL yanked their endorsement for Fateh.

Minnesota DFL officials’ extraordinary decision undoes a triumph for the democratic socialist state senator that generated national buzz, cementing Fateh as “the Mamdani of Minneapolis” and emboldening left-wing critics hoping to unseat incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey.

Minneapolis DFL organizers recently admitted the electronic voting system failed to capture all delegate votes during July’s citywide convention.

The mix-up did not directly lead to Fateh’s win, but it did eliminate another candidate, DeWayne Davis, before the decisive second ballot — which made it harder for Frey delegates to block Fateh’s endorsement.

Minneapolis DFL representatives admitted that the system had “failed to capture” approximately 95 ballots with valid codes, and that their final count was ultimately 176 votes short.

Fateh, 35, was born in Washington, D.C., and is the son of Somalian immigrants. His policies are so similar to NYC Democrat socialist muslim mayor candidate Zohran Mamdani (an immigrant from Uganda) that many call him the ‘Mamdani of the Midwest.’

Fateh is supported by multiple progressive groups, including the Democratic Socialists of America and the Sunrise Movement.

Somalian refugee Rep. Ilhan Omar is fuming over the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party dropping their endorsement for Fateh.  She raged in a post on X, “It is inexcusable to overturn the DFL endorsement from Omar Fateh. A small group, a majority living outside Minneapolis, met privately to overturn the will of Minneapolis delegates who volunteered, organized, and participated in a months-long DFL process. Unacceptable.”

She also released a longer statement in a press release, signed by herself and multiple other state Democrats and city council members.

Fateh is also complaining over the decision.

“28 party insiders met privately and voted to overturn our endorsement. Let me be clear, we’re still in this fight. And we’re going to win,” he claimed in a post on X.

Current Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is moving forward with his re-election campaign.

“I’m proud to be a member of a party that believes in correcting our mistakes, and I’m glad that this inaccurate and obviously flawed process was set aside. I look forward to having a full and honest debate with Senator Fateh about our city’s future, with the outcome now resting squarely where it should — with all the people of Minneapolis,” Frey wrote.

Meanwhile, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk wrote on Thursday:

The Minnesota state Democrat party has REVERSED its endorsement of Omar Fateh for mayor of Minneapolis after discovering — or rather, being forced to admit — severe voting irregularities at the city’s Democrat convention.

Problems included major voting machine malfunctions, as well as party delegates being removed without warning or explanation. According to incumbent mayor Jacob Frey’s campaign, the only explanation for what happened is “brazen cheating.”

Was it cheating? Or just Somali-style democracy?
