From the Washington Examiner: Immigration and Customs Enforcement moved all remaining migrants in Guantanamo Bay back to the United States proper before their impending deportations.
Roughly 300 migrants have been detained at the U.S. naval base since President Donald Trump took office. Most of those housed at the base had serious criminal histories, gang affiliations, or were ordered to be deported by federal judges.
A Department of Defense official told the Washington Post on Wednesday that all remaining migrants held at the facility had been flown back to the U.S. for unknown reasons.
Most of the migrants being held at the base had already been deported to Venezuela. The remaining 40 migrants were sent to an ICE facility in Louisiana.
Fox News Pentagon producer Liz Friden announced:
All 40 migrants held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have been sent back to the United States and are now being held in Louisiana, according to two U.S. defense officials. There are currently no migrants being held at Gitmo, and no flights scheduled to arrive with more migrants.
The migrants were transported back to the U.S. on ICE aircraft. The group includes 23 “high threat illegal aliens” who were held at the detention facility on base and 17 migrants who were held at the migrant operations center on base.

Officials I have spoken with were not told why the 40 migrants were sent back to the U.S. DHS and ICE have not yet responded to any inquiries on this.
It’s unclear if the U.S. will continue to hold migrants at Gitmo. None of the 195 tents set up have been used due to not meeting ICE standards, according to several U.S. defense officials. The operation to build more tents was halted in February, several weeks after it started.

I’m not surprised that ICE has transferred all immigrants from Guantanamo Bay back to stateside facilities. When I was there, it was clear that this “plan” was too costly, complicated, inefficient, and cruel. pic.twitter.com/hE9gvLmJYM
