From Fox News: House Republicans passed a short-term funding patch for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over the fierce objections of Democratic lawmakers late Friday evening.
But the 42-day shutdown that has snarled air travel and left tens of thousands of federal employees without pay is far from over.
House lawmakers voted 213-203 largely along party lines to approve a two-month funding extension for the beleaguered department, which has been operating without full-year appropriations since the funding lapse began on Feb. 14.
Reps. Don Davis, D-N.C., Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash., and Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, crossed party lines to support the measure. More than a dozen lawmakers did not vote.
In the wee hours of the morning on Friday, the Senate voted to approve a funding bill to cover most areas of the Department of Homeland Security, EXCEPT for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Border Patrol.
House Republicans flatly rejected it, saying there was no way they are going to approve a bill that excludes funding funding for ICE and CBP. Instead, Johnson proposed the 60-day clean funding extension, which he said would then allow them to reach an agreement on the issues with ICE and CBP.
House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries ranted against the House Republicans Friday night, calling their bill a “stunt.”

Both the House and Senate are scheduled to be gone for two weeks on their Easter break.
The 60-day funding bill now goes to the Senate, where Democrat leader Chuck Schumer declared it will be “dead on arrival.”
“A 60 day CR that locks in the status quo is dead on arrival in the Senate, and Republicans know it,” Schumer fumed, adding, “We’ve been clear from day one: Democrats will fund critical Homeland Security functions—but we will not give a blank check to Trump’s lawless and deadly immigration militia without reforms.”

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) posted a video around 11:45 pm Friday night, announcing that the House had just passed the 60-day funding bill. He told the Senate to “get back to DC and do your job.”
