From the Washington Examiner: Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) will face off in the lone vice presidential debate on Tuesday evening, and while many of the rules will be the same as the two presidential debates, there will be some key differences.

The 90-minute debate, hosted by CBS, will be held at the network’s studios in New York City and will likely be the final debate of the 2024 cycle for either the presidential or vice presidential candidates. Here are the rules for the debate between Vance and Walz.

The debate will be 90 minutes, with two four-minute commercial breaks, beginning at 9 p.m. During the commercial breaks, campaign staff will be prohibited from interacting with the candidates.

The candidates will be introduced with the incumbent party going first, meaning Walz, as the Democratic nominee for vice president, will be introduced before Vance.

The debate will be moderated by CBS hosts Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan, who are both known to take the side of Democrats.

The report lists the following rules agreed upon for the debate, which will take place Tuesday night.

  • No live audience
  • No muted mics
  • Moderators won’t be fact-checkers
  • Strict timing for questions and answers
  • Candidates will be standing
  • Candidates will not be allowed to have props or prewritten notes
  • The candidates will not have opening statements, but each will get a two-minute closing statement. Vance won the coin toss for the order of the closing statements, so he will have the final word on the stage.
