The Harris campaign is touting the endorsement of 111 Republican former officials which the majority of the American public has likely never even heard of.
From CNBC: More than 100 Republican former lawmakers and officials endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in a letter, while warning that their own party’s candidate, former President Donald Trump, is “unfit to serve again.”
In the letter, shared by the Harris campaign Wednesday, 111 former national security and foreign policy officials said that despite their disagreements with the vice president’s policies, “we believe that she possesses the essential qualities to serve as President and Donald Trump does not.”
They decried Trump for sowing “daily chaos in government” during his first term in office, arguing that he put his personal interests before the country’s and “violated his oath of office” by inciting the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The group, which includes former Trump administration officials as well as officials who served under former Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, also warned of Trump’s “susceptibility to flattery” by foreign leaders.
The group claims in their letter, “Vice President Harris has demonstrated a commitment to upholding the ideals that define our nation — freedom, democracy, and rule of law. Her experience as Attorney General of California and her leadership on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and as Vice President have helped prepare her to be President.”
“Donald Trump cannot be trusted “to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic . . . and bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” We believe that Kamala Harris can, and we urge other Americans to join us in supporting her,” the letter reads.
